Tampa's Wet Season is in Full Swing: Is Your Roof Prepared?

Learn how to protect your roof, prevent ceiling leaks, and extend your roof life through the Wet and Dry seasons of Tampa Bay.

In Tampa, there are two dominant seasons for your roof: Wet and Dry. Did you know that if you schedule roof repair and maintenance with your local roofing contractor around these two seasons, you can extend your roof life and preserve the quality of your roofing materials, saving you time and money year round?

Dry Season Roof Maintenance

The Dry Season months of November to May are best for new roof installations, roof replacements, re-roofs, and handling any regular roof repair and maintenance you might need to extend your roof life. It’s the best time for your annual roof inspections, gutter cleanings, and addressing minor ceiling leaks- before our famous Florida thunderstorms and hurricanes hit.

Wet Season Roof Damage

Tampa’s Wet Season begins in May and runs all the way into October, bringing an average of 20-30 inches of rainfall to the city. That’s a lot of water running down your roof. The increase in rainfall puts stress on your roof, no matter the roofing material. Shingle roofs, metal roofs, rubber roofs, and even tile roofs are susceptible to damage if not properly maintained. High winds can cause metal flashing to come loose, a valley can have leaf build-up, or a blocked scupper can cause water to pool on your roof. There can be a number of reasons that your ceiling leaks, or becomes damaged in some way that will eventually cause costly and intrusive roof repairs or re-roofing expenses.

How Can You Prepare Your Roof?

As pro-roofing contractors, we recommend taking steps in advance of the Wet season to prevent storm damage and emergency roof leak repairs before they can even start. Working on your residential or commercial roofing projects during the Dry season climate helps to preserve the life of your roof and the roofing materials you choose. We also suggest a roof inspection every 3 years at the very least so you can identify any cracks or weak spots in your roof before they escalate into serious damage. Having a regular roofing inspection could add 5-10 years on your roof, saving you thousands and keeping you drier, longer.
